It’s been a month since I tilled and put new seeds down. I have starter fertilizer in as well.

Also, how are you watering? If you’re overwatering then you could have washed it out yourself.

Okay thank you! I have been turning sprinklers on for 4 minutes and just keeping it wet but not where it puddles

Apply seed, cover with compost and water for 10 min four times a day. Could also be bad or expired seed, what brand of seed is it?

  5. Put more seed down and cover it with a thin layer of peat moss, it will help keep the seed in place and keep it wet longer.

I’m not sure where you’re located but In my area we haven’t gotten a lot of rain so everything is really dry. You might need to water the area more often – I usually do 2x a day for about 2 weeks.

Seed again. No fertilizer. And add some light straw. It’ll be up in 7 days.

That greenish tint towards the bottom of the photo looks like moss…

Re seed it quick, good news is its a small area so not much money. Bad news is the first frost date is approaching (possibly passed) depending on what part of Nebraska you are in. it might not have time to harden up before you start getting some overnight freezing temps.

Birds and mice eat seed? I bet deer will lick it up if they hungry. I used straw one time and had barley growing… just get sod.

  10. My municipality has put so much gravel on our boulevard I just grow clover on it. Ours looked like this when I tried reseeding it .

The ground crunches when I do the screw driver test

This is what I would do. Buy some Urea and throw couple handfuls down and water it in. Couple days later throw down your grass seed and top fill. Water it every day just to keep the soil moist but not puddle moist. Being between road and sidewalk you may want to put some straw on top but I am not a big fan of doing so but it helps people that walk pet (neutralizer for urine and such).

For this small of an area I would just sprinkle peat moss on top to keep seeds moist and prevent washing away.

What worked for me. Rake the area to loosen the dirt as much as possible down to the half inch. Aerate as much as you can manually if you don’t have the machine. Grab your seed and seed generously. Make sure to seed the holes. Grab fine compost and spread it on the area as a buffer to hold moisture well but also help the soil. Then grab starter fertilizer and spread it on the area. Grab a rake and really mix in the ingredients but make sure you spread it evenly. Once that’s done. You need to dial in on watering. Water the area 3-4 times a day. I would decide if it’s hot, do 4, if it’s getting colder, do 3. Do 10 minute watering cycles. Spread it out evenly throughout the day between sunrise and sunset. Example, 8am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm. Week two dial back from 10 minutes to 7 minutes. After two weeks. Subtract one watering. Example, 8am, 12:30pm, 5pm. Raise it to 8-9 minutes though. By the second week you should have solid growth happening.

Don’t put any starter fertilizer down until you see germination in case your soil has too much phosphorus
